Eefje de Visser

Lush, nocturnal art pop that feels like a whispered secret. Breathy Dutch vocals float over pulsing synths and liquid rhythms for a deep, immersive late-night listen.

Intro

Eefje de Visser creates a world that feels permanently set in the blue hour. Her music is a masterclass in atmosphere, where every synth swell and drum beat feels like it's being heard through a light evening mist. It is sophisticated, electronic-leaning pop that manages to be both deeply intimate and grandly cinematic at the same time.

What truly sets her apart is her use of the voice as a textural instrument. She layers her breathy, whispered vocals into thick choral stacks that wrap around the listener like a velvet blanket. While her earlier work leaned more toward acoustic folk-pop, her recent evolution into dark, pulsing synth-pop has solidified her as a visionary of the 'nocturnal' sound, blending Dutch lyrics with a universal sense of longing.

Start with the album Bitterzoet. It is the definitive realization of her sound, where the organic and the electronic merge perfectly. From there, explore the more stripped-back and melancholic Het Is to hear the songwriting bones beneath the lush production.

Eefje de Visser (born 8 February 1986) is a Dutch singer-songwriter. She won the Grote Prijs van Nederland, a national competition for musicians, in 2009. She released her first album, De Koek, in 2011, a breakthrough year in which she performed (accompanied by a four-man band called Most Unpleasant Men) at three major Dutch festivals: the Oerol Festival, Lowlands, and the Uitmarkt. On 14 December 2015 Eefje de Visser released a new song, "Scheef", on YouTube. The album Nachtlicht followed the next year. In 2020 she released her fourth album Bitterzoet, followed by a European tour supporting Balthazar.
