Eis (born Jacek Jagłowski) is a pivotal figure in Polish hip-hop, primarily due to his 2003 solo masterpiece 'Gdzie jest Eis?' Initially part of the group Elemer, his early work was polarizing, leading to a temporary withdrawal from the scene.
His solo debut, however, redefined the aesthetic of Warsaw rap by introducing a high-gloss, soul-sampled sound that contrasted with the raw, lo-fi 'street' rap dominant at the time. Despite the album's initial commercial underperformance, it achieved legendary cult status, often cited as the greatest Polish rap album of all time. Eis famously retired from music shortly after its release to pursue a highly successful career in digital media and business, creating a mythic aura around his short discography. His influence is seen in the 'lifestyle' rap movement and the shift toward more melodic, sample-heavy production in the Polish underground. He was also a key member of the Obrońcy Tytułu collective, linking him to the most influential lyricists of his generation.
