Enisum

Enisum is a prominent Italian atmospheric black metal project founded in 2006 by the multi-instrumentalist Lys. Named after Mount Musinè, the band is the primary representative of the 'Arpitanian' black metal scene, a movement focused on the cultural and natural heritage of the Western Alps.

Originally a solo endeavor, the project evolved into a full band, incorporating bass, drums, and the distinct ethereal vocals of Epheliin, which provide a melodic foil to Lys's traditional black metal delivery. Their sound identity is defined by a blend of Cascadian-style atmospheric black metal, neofolk, and post-rock, characterized by long-form compositions that transition between aggressive tremolo picking and melancholic acoustic interludes. Critically, they are lauded for moving away from the urban nihilism of traditional black metal in favor of a deep, almost spiritual environmentalism. They occupy a similar niche to Eastern European acts like Elderwind or Skyforest, prioritizing melody and atmosphere over raw dissonance.
