Esprit D'Air is a London-based Japanese alternative metal project led by multi-instrumentalist and producer Kai, who also serves as the guitarist for the legendary gothic rock band The Sisters of Mercy. Formed in 2010, the band initially gained traction with the single 'Shizuku', which achieved historical significance as the first J-rock track featured in the Rock Band video game franchise.
After a hiatus, the project was revived in 2016 as Kai's solo endeavor, supported by a rotating cast of high-caliber session musicians. Their sound is a sophisticated blend of J-rock, visual kei aesthetics, and electronic metal, characterized by high-fidelity production and a strong DIY ethos. The band has achieved significant chart success independently, with 'Oceans' and 'Aeons' reaching the top of the UK Rock & Metal charts. Critically, they are recognized for bridging the gap between Eastern melodic structures and Western metal production. Their influence web connects the theatricality of Japanese visual kei with the industrial-goth textures of the UK scene, making them a unique cultural bridge in the modern metal landscape.
