Euskefeurat

Gritty, humorous folk sung in a thick northern dialect. It is the sound of working-class Sweden, sharp-witted satire, and warm acoustic storytelling.

Intro

Euskefeurat sounds like a lively conversation in a Norrbotten kitchen where the coffee is strong and the politics are radical. Their music is built on a foundation of traditional Swedish folk and acoustic rock, but it is elevated by a distinct regional identity that feels both weathered and defiant. The instrumentation is earthy, relying on the interplay of acoustic guitars, accordions, and fiddles to create a sound that is as sturdy as a timber house.

What truly sets them apart is their use of Pitemål, the local dialect of Piteå. This linguistic choice transforms their songs into a form of cultural preservation and resistance. The vocals, led by Ronny Eriksson, carry a dry, satirical wit that skewers authority while celebrating the resilience of the common person. It is music that refuses to be polished, preferring the honest grit of a live performance and the warmth of shared community.

For a newcomer, the album Hoven Droven is the essential starting point. It captures the band at their peak of regional influence, blending catchy folk melodies with sharp social commentary. It is the perfect introduction to a band that managed to be both deeply local and universally relatable through the lens of humor and heart.

Euskefeurat is a music group from Piteå, Sweden. Euskefeurat is an adjective in the local Norrbottnic dialect which means "tired" or "worn out". Founded in 1977, Euskefeurat is a local patriotic leftleaning band from the northern Swedish town of Piteå. It stopped in 1994 and restarted in 2005. Among the members are Ronny Eriksson, Bengt Ruthström, Dan Engman and Stefan Isaksson. Various others have been part during different periods. On 9 April 2005, Euskeufeurat came together for an evening and soon after, during the summer of 2005, Euskefeurat could be heard and seen in Harads, Pajala, Skule, Burträsk and Piteå, all in northern Sweden. Many Euskefeurat songs are sung in Pitemål, a local dialect, which is said to have been good for the popularity of the dialect.
