Aggressive, politically charged thrash metal with surgical riffs and a hardcore edge. High-speed West Coast energy for the front of the pit.
Evildead formed in 1986 as a Los Angeles thrash metal supergroup, emerging from the dissolution of speed metal pioneers Agent Steel and the hardcore-leaning Abattoir. Led by guitarist Juan Garcia, the band pivoted away from the sci-fi themes of their predecessors toward a more aggressive, politically motivated sound.
Their 1989 debut, Annihilation of Civilization, is considered a cult classic of the second-wave thrash movement, characterized by its sharp production and Ed Repka cover art. The band's sound is defined by high-velocity tremolo picking, complex rhythmic shifts, and lyrics addressing nuclear proliferation and social decay. Despite a hiatus during the 1990s grunge era, their 21st-century reformation has seen them maintain a high standard of technical thrash, notably with 2020's United $tate$ of Anarchy. They occupy a vital space in the West Coast thrash lineage, influencing the modern 'revival' scene through their blend of technicality and crossover energy.
