Fast Romantics are a Canadian indie rock staple, formed in Calgary in 2008 before relocating to Toronto. Led by primary songwriter Matthew Angus, the band's evolution is marked by a shift from early power-pop and Britpop influences toward a more expansive, heartland-influenced sound.
Their breakthrough came with the addition of a more robust synth presence and a focus on anthemic, romantic songwriting, culminating in the critical success of the 2017 album American Love. Their sound identity is built on the contrast between Angus's deep, resonant vocals and bright, shimmering arrangements. Critically, they are praised for their melodic craftsmanship and ability to modernize classic rock tropes without falling into pastiche.
