Fazerdaze is the solo project of New Zealand multi-instrumentalist and producer Amelia Murray. Emerging from the Auckland bedroom pop scene in the mid-2010s, Murray gained international attention with her 2017 debut album, Morningside.
Her sound is characterized by a meticulous blend of dream pop, shoegaze, and indie pop, often recorded and produced in isolation. This 'bedroom' aesthetic is central to her identity, emphasizing intimacy and personal agency in the recording process. Following a five-year hiatus caused by burnout and the pressures of sudden fame, Murray returned in 2022 with a more aggressive, grunge-influenced sound on the Break! EP, followed by the critically acclaimed Soft Power in 2024. Her work is frequently cited alongside contemporaries like Alvvays and Jay Som for its ability to marry hook-heavy songwriting with hazy, atmospheric textures.
