Gleb Samoylov & The Matrixx emerged in 2010 following the dissolution of the legendary Russian rock band Agatha Christie. While Agatha Christie leaned into psychedelic and gothic rock, The Matrixx represents a more aggressive, industrial-influenced evolution.
Led by Gleb Samoylov, the project incorporates elements of electroclash, darkwave, and even dubstep into a foundational gothic rock framework. Their sound is characterized by a high degree of theatricality and a cynical, often nihilistic lyrical perspective that critiques both personal and social realities. The band's career arc shows a steady movement toward more complex electronic arrangements, moving away from traditional rock structures toward a 'neo-post-punk' aesthetic. Critically, they are viewed as a vital continuation of the 'Sverdlovsk Rock' spirit but updated for a modern, digital age. They occupy a unique space in the Russian scene, bridging the gap between mainstream rock veterans and the underground gothic/industrial subcultures.
