Fire! Orchestra

Fire! Orchestra is a Swedish experimental mega-ensemble born from the core trio Fire!

(Mats Gustafsson, Johan Berthling, and Andreas Werliin). Since its inception in 2012, the group has functioned as a rotating collective, sometimes swelling to nearly 30 members, drawing from the highest echelons of the Scandinavian jazz, rock, and improv scenes. Their sound identity is defined by a 'sledgehammer' approach to big band music, replacing traditional swing with motorik rhythms, heavy blues-rock influences, and avant-garde skronk. The project represents a bridge between the European free improv tradition and the energy of psychedelic rock. Critical consensus highlights their ability to maintain cohesion despite massive personnel counts, often credited to the strong rhythmic foundations provided by Berthling and Werliin.
