Fist (often confused with the UK NWOBHM band of the same name) is a seminal Canadian hard rock and heavy metal outfit formed in Ottawa in 1979. Originally known as Axe, they rebranded to avoid conflict with the American band Axe.
Their sound is a quintessential example of the early 1980s transition from arena rock to heavy metal, characterized by a high-energy delivery and a focus on melodic hooks within a heavy framework. The band signed with A&M Records, leading to their most successful period with albums like Hot Spikes and Fleet Street.
