Bartosz Waglewski, performing as Fisz, is a pivotal figure in Polish alternative music. Emerging in the late 1990s, he broke away from the prevailing 'hardcore' rap trends in Poland to pioneer a more cerebral, jazz-influenced aesthetic.
His debut 'Polepione dźwięki' (2000) is considered a landmark release, introducing a style often termed 'intelligent hip-hop.' His career is defined by a close collaboration with his brother, producer Emade, whose sophisticated use of sampling and live instrumentation (funk, soul, and jazz) provides the backbone for Fisz's abstract and wordplay-heavy lyrics. Over decades, his sound has evolved from boom-bap roots into more experimental territories, including the 'Tworzywo Sztuczne' projects which lean heavily into live band arrangements.
