Five Seasons

Five Seasons is the primary solo vehicle for German producer and multi-instrumentalist Daniel Voss, co-founder of the influential Lemongrassmusic label. Launched in 2007, the project serves as a more personal outlet compared to his collaborative work with his brother Roland Voss in projects like Weathertunes and Lemongrass.

Voss's background as a jazz-trained pianist is central to the Five Seasons sound, manifesting in complex chord voicings and fluid improvisational leads that define the project's sophisticated lounge aesthetic. The project reached a creative peak with the 2011 album 'By The Sea,' which introduced international vocal collaborations, most notably with Marisol Costa, bridging the gap between European downtempo and Brazilian MPB. Critically, Five Seasons is regarded as a cornerstone of the modern lounge scene, praised for its high production values and its ability to maintain emotional depth within a genre often dismissed as functional. The project's evolution has seen it move from strictly electronic chillout toward a more 'organic-electronic' hybrid, incorporating live instrumentation and diverse linguistic influences while maintaining a consistent atmosphere of coastal serenity.
