Flema

Raw, nihilistic Argentine punk that trades polish for pure suburban grit. Simple chords and self-destructive anthems for the disillusioned and the defiant.

Intro

Flema sounds like the unfiltered voice of a generation that stopped caring about the future. It is music stripped of artifice, built on the skeletal frame of three-chord punk and delivered with a raspy, often slurred urgency that feels like a secret shared in a dark alley. The guitars are thin and distorted, the drums are relentless but basic, and the production often feels like it was captured on a single mic in a room full of smoke. It is the sonic equivalent of a bruised knuckle.

What truly sets Flema apart is the late Ricky Espinosa's lyrical perspective. While their contemporaries in the Argentine scene often leaned into social protest or pop-punk melodies, Flema delved into a deeply personal, often uncomfortable nihilism. Their songs tackle addiction, loneliness, and the mundane tragedy of everyday life with a brutal honesty that is both repulsive and deeply relatable. It is punk rock as a survival mechanism, where the only thing more important than the message is the fact that they are still playing.

To understand their impact, start with 'El exceso de drogas y alcohol es perjudicial para tu salud'. It is the definitive statement of their 90s peak, containing the rawest versions of their most iconic tracks. From there, move to 'Si el placer es un pecado, bienvenidos al infierno' to hear how their sound evolved while maintaining its jagged, uncompromising edge. It is music for the moments when you want to feel everything and nothing all at once.

Flema was an Argentine punk rock band. Their current lineup consists of: Fernando Rossi, on lead vocals and bass guitar; Luis Gribaldo, Miguel de Luna Campos, and Bruno Gonzáles on guitar; and Sergio Lencina on drums. The band is famous for having multiple changes to its lineup over the years - at present, no original members of the band remain in it in its current form. They are notable for being the band which controversial punk figure Ricardo "Ricky" Espinosa headed before his death in 2002. They are known for their songs such as "Borrachos en la esquina", "Semen de buey", and "El blanco cristal".
