Force Mass Motion

Force Mass Motion, the primary alias of British producer Mike Wells, is a foundational figure in the evolution of UK rave music. Emerging in 1991 via the Rabbit City label, Wells was instrumental in bridging the gap between the breakbeat-heavy hardcore scene and the emerging techno sound.

His early work is characterized by high BPMs, heavy use of the Roland TR-909, and intricate breakbeat manipulation, a style that would eventually influence the birth of jungle and drum and bass. Throughout the 1990s, his sound evolved from the 'darkside' rave aesthetic toward a more polished, tech-house and nu-skool breaks style, particularly through his work on Mute Records' Future Groove imprint and his Silencer collaboration with Dylan Rhymes.
