High-energy Harlem street anthems defined by gravelly shouts and soul-sampled production. The raw, charismatic heart of the Diplomat Records era.
Freekey Zekey is the pure, unadulterated energy of the early 2000s Harlem rap scene. His music doesn't just play; it erupts. Built on a foundation of 'chipmunk soul' samples and heavy, trunk-rattling percussion, his sound is synonymous with the Diplomat Records movement. It is loud, proud, and unapologetically street, carrying a specific kind of New York bravado that feels both dangerous and celebratory.
What truly sets Zekey apart is his role as the ultimate hype-man turned solo artist. His signature move is the vocal explosion, often yelling his own name or ad-libs with a raspy intensity that cuts through even the densest production. He prioritizes charisma and presence over intricate wordplay, making his tracks feel like live performances captured in the studio. It is the sound of a personality too big for the booth.
Start with 'Blame It on the Henny' to understand his club-ready side, or dive into 'Book of Ezekiel' for the quintessential Dipset experience. This is music for when you want to feel invincible, or when the room needs a sudden injection of high-voltage confidence.
Ezekiel Jiles (born October 13, 1975), known professionally as Freekey Zekey, is an American rapper best known as a founding member of now-defunct hip-hop group the Diplomats, which he helped form in Harlem in 1997 alongside his childhood friend Jim Jones and cousin Cam'ron. Freekey also serves as the owner/CEO of 730 Dips Records. Aside from The Diplomats, he is also a member of fellow rapper Jim Jones' ByrdGang, and has made a habit of yelling his name in songs; it is his signature on tracks, whether he is featured or the solo artist.
