Hazy, reverb-soaked indie rock that feels like a quiet morning in the woods. Introspective songwriting wrapped in shimmering textures and breathy falsetto.
From Indian Lakes creates a sound that feels like a physical space, specifically the misty, isolated landscapes of the Sierra Nevada where Joey Vannucchi began. It is music that exists in the blur between waking and dreaming, utilizing vast washes of reverb and delicate, layered guitars to build an atmosphere that is both expansive and deeply intimate. The rhythms are often surprisingly intricate, grounding the ethereal melodies with a steady, pulsing heart.
What truly sets the project apart is the specific vocal treatment. Vannucchi’s voice is often whispered and multi-tracked, creating a ghostly presence that feels like it's speaking directly into your ear from another room. There is a tactile, analog quality to the production, often incorporating tape hiss and organic imperfections that make the digital recordings feel like found objects or old photographs.
For those new to the band, Absent Sounds is the essential entry point, perfectly balancing their emo-adjacent roots with the lush, dream-pop textures they would later master. It captures the transition from a traditional band sound into something more singular, atmospheric, and hauntingly beautiful.
