Fun

Theatrical, maximalist pop that feels like a Broadway stage invaded by a rock band. Huge choruses, orchestral flourishes, and vocals that reach for the rafters.

Intro

Listening to fun. feels like being the protagonist of a high-budget coming-of-age film. The music is unashamedly grand, utilizing orchestral swells, marching band percussion, and dense vocal harmonies to turn personal anxieties into stadium-sized anthems. It is the sound of late-night revelations and the messy, beautiful transition into adulthood.

What sets them apart is the collision of Nate Ruess's elastic, Queen-indebted vocals with Jack Antonoff and Andrew Dost's penchant for baroque arrangements. They managed to take the quirkiness of indie-pop and inflate it to a cinematic scale, blending hip-hop-influenced drum beats with glockenspiels and brass sections. It is music that demands your full attention and a bit of your lung capacity for the high notes.

Start with 'Some Nights' to hear their signature blend of tribal rhythms and soaring melodies, or dive into 'Aim and Ignite' if you prefer a more whimsical, piano-driven theatricality. They are the perfect choice for moments that require a sense of triumph or a cathartic, communal singalong.

Fun (stylized as fun.) was an American pop rock band based in New York City. The band consisted of Andrew Dost (of Anathallo), Nate Ruess (of The Format), and Jack Antonoff (of Steel Train and Bleachers). Fun formed in 2008, and their debut studio album, Aim and Ignite, was released in 2009 to moderate commercial success. The band rose to prominence with the release of their second album, Some Nights, in 2012. The album peaked at number three on the U.S. Billboard 200 chart, and topped Billboard's Top Alternative Albums and Top Rock Albums charts. It spawned their biggest hit singles to date: "We Are Young" featuring Janelle Monáe, "Some Nights" and "Carry On", all of which reached the top 20 on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 with "We Are Young" peaking at number one. At the 55th Annual Grammy Awards, they won the award for Song of the Year for their song "We Are Young"; they also won the award for Best New Artist.
