Gel emerged from the fertile New Jersey hardcore scene in 2018, originally as a side project of the powerviolence outfit Sick Shit. They quickly became a central pillar of the 'New Wave of American Hardcore,' characterized by a return to fast, catchy, and high-energy songwriting that eschews the metallic 'tough guy' tropes of the previous decade.

Their sound is rooted in 80s hardcore and d-beat but updated with a crisp, modern production sensibility that emphasizes clarity within the chaos. Sami Kaiser's vocal performance is a defining element, offering a distinctive raspy bark that sits perfectly atop the band's rhythmic assault.
