GHENGAR is the dark-electronic alter ego of David Lee Crow, better known as the house and bass producer Ghastly. Launched in early 2022, the project was explicitly designed to house Crow's heaviest and most experimental dubstep and riddim productions, separating them from the more melodic and house-centric Ghastly brand.
The sound identity is defined by high-intensity sound design, frequently utilizing metallic FM synthesis, aggressive distortion, and horror-themed aesthetics. GHENGAR fits within the 'trench' or 'riddim' sub-scenes, characterized by repetitive, heavy-hitting rhythmic structures and a focus on textural innovation over traditional melody. Critically, the project is viewed as a successful pivot for Crow, allowing him to tap into the 'lost lands' festival culture where high-energy, aggressive bass music is the primary currency. The project's evolution has seen it move from single releases like 'COUNT DANKULA' to more cohesive, long-form statements like 'FINAL BOSS', cementing its place in the modern industrial-bass landscape.
