Ghostpoet

Low-slung baritone monologues over murky, atmospheric beats. A masterclass in urban isolation that feels like a slow walk through a rain-slicked city at midnight.

Intro

Ghostpoet sounds like the internal monologue of a man walking through a city that never quite sleeps, but is currently very quiet. His music is anchored by a deep, resonant baritone that sits somewhere between a weary sigh and a poetic narration. The production is thick and atmospheric, often blending the skeletal rhythms of trip-hop with the jagged, nervous energy of post-punk guitars and warm, analog synthesizers.

What truly sets him apart is the sense of restless stillness. While the beats provide a steady pulse, the textures are often murky and layered, creating a sonic environment that feels both intimate and expansive. His delivery is famously conversational and slightly slurred, eschewing traditional rap cadences for a more naturalistic, stream-of-consciousness style that captures the anxiety and beauty of modern life.

Start with 'Dark Days + Canapés' for a polished introduction to his noir-inflected sound, or revisit 'Peanut Butter Blues & Melancholy Jam' to hear the raw, Mercury-nominated foundations of his unique abstract hip-hop approach.
