Ultra-smooth 80s balladry and early 90s R&B grooves. Heart-on-sleeve pop that feels like a sunset slow dance or a nostalgic polaroid.
Glenn Medeiros represents the pinnacle of late-80s sentimental pop, defined by a voice that is both boyish and remarkably polished. His sound is anchored by the shimmering textures of Yamaha DX7 keyboards, lush synthesizers, and that unmistakable gated reverb on the drums. It is music that prioritizes emotional sincerity above all else, delivered with a gentle, crooning style that made him a global teen idol.
What truly distinguishes Medeiros is his career pivot from pure adult contemporary balladry to the harder-edged, urban-influenced sounds of the early 1990s. While his debut was all about the island-breeze romance of Kauai, his later collaborations with Bobby Brown and Ray Parker Jr. introduced a New Jack Swing swing and street-ready production that showcased his versatility as a vocalist. He bridged the gap between safe, radio-friendly pop and the burgeoning R&B scene.
Start with his self-titled 1987 debut for the definitive experience of 80s balladry. If you want to hear his evolution into a more rhythmic, confident performer, jump to the 1990 album, specifically the chart-topping duet 'She Ain't Worth It.' It is a fascinating time capsule of a specific era in pop production.
Glenn Alan Medeiros (born June 24, 1970) is an American former singer best known for his 1987 George Benson cover, "Nothing's Gonna Change My Love for You", which reached No. 12 on the US Billboard Hot 100 and topped the charts in Canada and the United Kingdom. It also topped the charts in a further four countries in Europe. In 2009, the song was used in France in a television advert for Spontex sponges. In 1988, he followed that single with "Un Roman d'amitié (Friend You Give Me a Reason)", a duet with Elsa Lunghini which achieved huge success in France where it managed to top the chart for six consecutive weeks, and remained on the Top 50 chart for 25 weeks. In 1990, Medeiros also collaborated with R&B artist Bobby Brown for the hit "She Ain't Worth It", a certified-Gold US and international chart-topper.
