Glis

Sleek, melodic industrial beats that bridge the gap between dancefloor energy and late-night introspection. Cyberpunk synth-pop for the dark-clad and restless.

Intro

Glis occupies that shadowy intersection where the aggressive pulse of EBM meets the soaring, emotional melodies of futurepop. It is music that feels inherently nocturnal, characterized by polished digital production that manages to retain a human, often melancholic heart. The sound is defined by driving percussion and shimmering synth leads that evoke the high-tech, low-life aesthetic of classic cyberpunk fiction.

What sets Glis apart is the meticulous attention to atmospheric detail. While many of their peers in the dark electro scene lean into pure aggression, Shaun Frandsen utilizes a more nuanced approach, often layering breathy, processed vocals over complex glissando sweeps. This creates a sense of movement and fluidity, living up to the project's name. The later addition of guitar as a textural counterpoint adds a grounded, organic grit to their otherwise crystalline electronic landscapes.

For those new to the project, the early 2000s albums like Balance and Equilibrium are essential starting points. They capture the peak of the futurepop movement while showcasing a level of songwriting sophistication that keeps the tracks relevant long after the club lights have dimmed. It is the perfect soundtrack for anyone who finds beauty in the cold, neon-lit corners of the digital age.

Glis is an electronic music project founded in 2001 by Shaun Frandsen of Seattle, Washington, United States. The band has experienced several lineup changes and guest appearances, with frontman Shaun Frandsen acting as primary producer, vocalist, songwriter, and instrumentalist. Notable guest, Jean-Luc De Meyer of Front 242, contributed vocals for two studio tracks on the album "Nemesis" in 2005. Glis began to use guitar as a production counterpoint on the album "Phoenix" in 2013.
