Intro

This is the sound of a room coming alive. Guayacán Orquesta delivers a brand of salsa that is both technically sophisticated and physically demanding. It hits with a wall of sound led by aggressive, bright brass sections and a percussion pocket that feels impossible to ignore. The music carries a distinct Colombian flavor, blending the elegance of big-band arrangements with the raw, rhythmic heat of the Pacific coast.

What sets them apart is the sheer density of their arrangements. While many salsa acts lean into either the romantic or the rhythmic, Guayacán manages to fuse both into a high-fidelity experience. The interplay between the trombone lines and the rapid-fire piano montunos creates a tension that only resolves when the chorus hits. It is music that feels expensive and meticulously crafted, yet retains the soul of a street festival.

Start with 'Oiga, Mire, Vea' to understand their cultural impact, or dive into the album 'Con el corazón abierto' for a masterclass in 90s salsa production. It is the perfect entry point for anyone who wants to experience the peak of the Colombian salsa sound beyond the standard global hits.

Guayacán Orquesta is a Colombian salsa music band. The band was founded by Alexis Lozano, formerly of Grupo Niche, a trombone player and arranger, and includes Israel Tanenbaum, producer, pianist and arranger, and is one of the premier salsa bands in the music of Colombia. Ostual Serna is the current conga player.
