Halo

Halo is an Australian duo consisting of Skye Klein and Robert MacManus, emerging from the fertile Melbourne underground scene of the late 1990s and early 2000s. Their sound identity is defined by an extreme fusion of sludge metal, drone, and industrial noise, often drawing comparisons to the 'street clean' era of Godflesh or the harrowing minimalism of Khanate.

Unlike their contemporaries who leaned into stoner-rock tropes, Halo pursued a path of sonic attrition, utilizing drum machines and heavily processed bass to create a 'sound-excreting' aesthetic. Their work is characterized by a lack of traditional song structure, favoring long-form endurance and textural exploration. Critically, they are regarded as a cult entity that pushed the boundaries of how slow and heavy music could be while maintaining a cold, mechanical detachment.
