Hardfloor

Hardfloor, the German duo of Oliver Bondzio and Ramon Zenker, are the primary architects of the 'second wave' of acid techno. Formed in 1991, they moved the sound away from its Chicago house origins and toward a more aggressive, hypnotic, and polished European aesthetic.

Their 1992 masterpiece 'Acperience 1' is widely considered one of the most influential tracks in electronic music history, bridging the gap between underground techno and the emerging trance scene. Their signature technique involves the simultaneous use of multiple Roland TB-303 synthesizers, allowing for a polyphonic density rarely seen in the genre. Throughout the 90s, they maintained a high level of critical respect by refusing to abandon their hardware-centric approach, even as digital production became the norm. Their influence can be heard in the works of artists like Emmanuel Top and Richie Hawtin, and they remain a cornerstone of the German electronic music identity, representing a purist commitment to the 'acid' sound.
