Hell or Highwater is an American hard rock band formed by Brandon Saller during the 2010 hiatus of his primary band, Atreyu. Originally performing under the moniker The Black Cloud Collective, the project allowed Saller to pivot from his role as a drummer/vocalist to a dedicated frontman and guitarist.
This shift fundamentally altered his creative output, moving away from metalcore toward a melodic, hook-driven hard rock sound influenced by classic rock and 90s alternative. Their debut, 'Begin Again', established a blueprint of high-energy anthems that resonated with fans of active rock radio. Over subsequent releases like 'The Other Side' EP and 'Vista', the band refined their sonic identity, incorporating elements of punk rock and bluesy swagger. Critically, they are viewed as a successful example of a 'side project' evolving into a legitimate entity, praised for Saller's vocal range and the band's ability to craft stadium-sized choruses within a gritty, guitar-centric framework.
