Hrvatski is the primary electronic alias of Keith Fullerton Whitman, a pivotal figure in the American experimental scene. Emerging from the Berklee College of Music, Whitman applied academic rigorousness to the burgeoning 'drill and bass' and IDM movements of the late 1990s.
His work as Hrvatski is defined by extreme rhythmic complexity, often utilizing Max/MSP and custom software to achieve micro-edits that were physically impossible for human drummers. His 2002 album, 'Swarm & Dither', released on Planet Mu, remains a landmark of the genre, blending the frenetic energy of jungle with the cold aesthetics of glitch. Whitman's career arc moved from these hyper-edited breakbeats toward more modular, generative, and ambient explorations under his own name, but the Hrvatski moniker represents his most aggressive and culturally visible period. He is widely respected for his technical mastery and his role in bridging the gap between underground rave culture and institutional computer music.
