Hurriganes

Hurriganes stands as the foundational pillar of Finnish rock, bridging the gap between early rock and roll revivalism and the hard rock explosion of the 1980s. Formed in 1971 by Remu Aaltonen, the band's identity was forged in the Helsinki club scene, characterized by a 'greaser' aesthetic and a relentless touring schedule.

Their sound is a high-energy blend of 1950s rock and roll, blues-rock, and proto-punk energy, often compared to British pub rock acts like Dr. Feelgood. The 'classic' lineup featuring Aaltonen, bassist Cisse Häkkinen, and guitar virtuoso Albert Järvinen is legendary in Nordic music history. Järvinen's technical proficiency gave the band a musical credibility that allowed them to break into the Swedish and Estonian markets, a rare feat for Finnish artists at the time. Despite internal volatility and multiple lineup changes involving guitarist Ile Kallio, their influence remained massive, directly inspiring the glam-rock of Hanoi Rocks and the subsequent 'Suomirock' movement.
