Hyperactive post-hardcore fused with glitchy electronics and absurdist humor. A chaotic, neon-soaked explosion of sound for the restless and the bold.
I Set My Friends on Fire sounds like a digital fever dream where post-hardcore aggression meets the neon sheen of late-2000s electronic pop. It is a sonic assault that feels both meticulously engineered and completely unhinged, characterized by rapid-fire transitions between guttural screams and sugary, auto-tuned melodies. The music is dense with layers of synths, drum machines, and jagged guitar riffs, creating a texture that is simultaneously gritty and synthetic.
What makes them truly distinctive is their fearless embrace of the absurd. From their breakout cover of Soulja Boy to their surrealist song titles and lyrics, they reject the self-serious tropes of the hardcore scene. Their production is maximalist to the extreme, often cramming more ideas into a single track than most bands do in an entire album. It is the sound of internet-era sensory overload translated into a musical format.
For those looking to dive in, 'You Can't Spell Slaughter Without Laughter' is the definitive starting point. It captures the band at their most iconic, blending the raw energy of the Miami scene with the experimental digital flourishes that would define their legacy. It is a polarizing, high-energy experience that rewards listeners who crave unpredictability and sonic maximalism.
