Imperium Dekadenz

Imperium Dekadenz is a German black metal duo consisting of Horaz and Vespasian, formed in 2004 in the Black Forest region. They are central figures in the 'Atmospheric Black Metal' scene, specifically the German branch which often emphasizes nature and heritage over religious provocation.

Their sound identity is built on a foundation of Norwegian second-wave black metal but evolved significantly toward a more melodic, epic, and mid-tempo style. They are noted for their high production values and 'antique' aesthetic, frequently referencing the Roman Empire as a metaphor for decadence and mortality. Critically, they are praised for their ability to maintain an underground spirit while achieving a sophisticated, almost 'intelligent' songwriting style that incorporates acoustic passages and ambient textures.
