Whimsical Finnish pop rock infused with cinematic strings and ethereal vocals. It feels like a storybook coming to life in a misty northern forest.
Indica creates a sound that is fundamentally rooted in the mystical landscapes of Finland. Their music occupies a unique space between accessible pop rock and the grandiosity of symphonic metal, characterized by Jonsu's distinctive, breathy vocals and her background in classical composition. It is music that feels both intimate and expansive, like a whispered secret shared in a vast cathedral.
The band's distinctiveness lies in their ability to weave traditional Finnish folk sensibilities and orchestral flourishes into catchy, guitar-driven arrangements. While many of their peers in the Finnish rock scene lean into grit or aggression, Indica maintains a sense of childlike wonder and whimsical mystery. The prominent use of violin and keyboards creates a shimmering, almost magical texture that sets them apart from standard radio rock.
For those new to the band, their debut 'Ikuinen virta' is the essential starting point to hear their original Finnish-language charm. If you prefer a more cinematic and polished production, 'A Way Away' offers English re-imaginings of their best work, produced by Nightwish's Tuomas Holopainen, showcasing their full symphonic potential.
Indica is a Finnish pop rock band founded in 2001. Jani Jalonen of Sony Music became interested in the group, and a recording contract was signed 2003. Indica's first album, Ikuinen virta was released in 2004. It has since sold platinum in Finland. Indica supported Nightwish during their Scandinavian tour 2007 in which they performed English versions of their songs. Tuomas Holopainen of Nightwish produced their next album, Valoissa, while many of the songs employed the orchestral talents of Pip Williams and the literary talents of their lyrics collaborator Rory Winston. The band was also added to the line-up for Nightwish's second half of the Dark Passion Play Tour with Pain.
