Intuit

Intuit is a German musical project led by bassist Till Maragnoli and drummer Thomas Braun, who have collaborated since 1997. Originally recording under the name Supersempft for the influential Compost Records label, they transitioned to the Intuit moniker to explore a more organic, instrument-heavy sound.

Their identity is defined by a deep reverence for Brazilian musical traditions, specifically Bossa Nova and Samba, which they filter through a modern European nu jazz lens. Unlike many of their contemporaries who relied heavily on programmed loops, Intuit emphasizes live performance and a rotating cast of guest vocalists and soloists, resulting in a sound that is rich, complex, and highly textured. They occupy a critical space between the 'lounge' movement of the late 90s and the more academic 'future jazz' scene. Their work is characterized by high production values, warm analog tones, and a rhythmic sophistication that appeals to both casual listeners and crate-digging jazz aficionados. Historically, they represent the peak of the German nu jazz movement centered around labels like Compost and Sonar Kollektiv.
