Intro

J.J. Jackson delivers a brand of soul that is physically impossible to sit still to. His music is defined by a massive, commanding vocal presence that earns the 'belter' label in every sense, backed by tight, punchy arrangements that bridge the gap between American R&B grit and British jazz sophistication. It is warm, brassy, and relentlessly rhythmic.

What truly sets Jackson apart is the rhythmic interplay between his vocals and the instrumentation. Unlike the smoother crooners of his era, Jackson uses his voice like a percussion instrument, hitting notes with a sharp, rhythmic attack that mirrors the staccato guitar work found in his biggest hits. The production feels live and immediate, capturing the energy of a top-tier soul revue.

Start with the 1967 album 'But It's Alright.' The title track is a masterclass in the 'Boogaloo' soul style, featuring a legendary guitar riff and a groove that feels both sophisticated and raw. It is the perfect entry point for anyone who loves the high-energy side of the 60s soul explosion.
