JAG

JAG (John Allen Garies) was a prominent fixture in the early 1990s Contemporary Christian Music (CCM) scene, bridging the gap between traditional hard rock and the emerging adult contemporary rock sound. Founded by Garies after his tenure with Sacred Fire, the band became a vehicle for his songwriting and vocal prowess.

Their debut, 'The Longest Road' (1990), established a foundation of guitar-driven rock, but it was their subsequent releases that solidified their reputation for high-end production. The band frequently collaborated with elite Nashville session musicians, including Dann Huff and members of White Heart, resulting in a sound that rivaled mainstream arena rock acts of the time. Garies' vocal style is often compared to the powerful tenors of the AOR era, characterized by a strong vibrato and significant emotional range. Historically, JAG represents the peak of the 'big budget' CCM rock era before the industry shifted toward the grungier, alternative sounds of the mid-90s.
