Jamaica, the French duo consisting of Antoine Hilaire and Florent Lyonnet, emerged in 2010 as a pivotal bridge between the indie rock revival and the dominant French Touch electronic scene. Originally performing as Poney Poney, they rebranded and refined their sound for their debut album, 'No Problem'.
The project is notable for its high-profile production pedigree, featuring Xavier de Rosnay of Justice and Peter Franco, a key engineer for Daft Punk. This collaboration resulted in a unique 'electro-rock' aesthetic where the rock elements are treated with the compression and precision of club music. Their sound is characterized by staccato guitar riffs, heavy syncopation, and a bright, hi-fi frequency response that defined the Kitsuné Maison era of the early 2010s. Critically, they were seen as a more guitar-focused counterpart to the synth-heavy French pop of the time.
