Jelen

Jelen is a prominent Czech folk-rock band formed in 2012, led by frontman Jindra Polák. They emerged during a global resurgence of 'stomp-and-clap' folk (akin to Mumford & Sons or The Lumineers) but distinguished themselves by grounding their sound in the specific traditions of Czech 'tramp' music and bluegrass.

Their sound identity is built on acoustic instrumentation - primarily banjo, harmonica, and violin - processed with a modern rock energy and pop sensibility. A key element of their identity is the frequent collaboration with singer Kateřina Marie Tichá, whose vocals provide a melodic counterpoint to Polák's raspy delivery. Since winning the Anděl Award for Band of the Year, they have occupied a unique cultural position as a bridge between traditional folk enthusiasts and mainstream pop audiences.
