John Beltran

John Beltran is a pivotal figure in the evolution of ambient techno and melodic electronic music. Emerging from the Michigan scene in the early 1990s, Beltran distinguished himself from the harder, industrial-leaning Detroit sound by incorporating heavy influences from classical, jazz, and Latin music.

His 1996 masterpiece, 'Ten Days of Blue', is widely cited as a cornerstone of the ambient techno genre, praised for its emotional depth and sophisticated harmonic structures. Over a career spanning three decades, Beltran has moved fluidly between cinematic ambient, deep house, and world-music-inspired electronica, most notably through his 'Placid Angles' alias and his 'Back to Bahia' projects. His work is characterized by a high degree of musicality, often featuring complex percussion and lush, polyphonic synth arrangements.
