Jungle

Jungle is a British electronic soul collective founded in 2013 by childhood friends Josh Lloyd-Watson and Tom McFarland (J and T). Initially shrouded in anonymity to emphasize their visual aesthetic and choreography-heavy music videos, the project evolved from a bedroom production duo into a powerhouse seven-piece live band.

Their sound identity is built on a foundation of mid-tempo funk, disco, and neo-soul, distinguished by a unique 'group vocal' style where multiple members sing in falsetto unison, eschewing the traditional lead singer dynamic. Their 2014 debut was a Mercury Prize-shortlisted success, establishing them as leaders in the UK's 'modern soul' resurgence. Over subsequent albums like For Ever and Loving in Stereo, they refined their analog-meets-digital production, eventually moving to their independent label, Caiola Records. The addition of Lydia Kitto as a permanent member has further expanded their harmonic range. Critically, they are praised for their seamless integration of vintage aesthetics with contemporary dancefloor sensibilities, occupying a space between indie-pop accessibility and crate-digger sophistication.
