Jungle by Night

Jungle by Night is an Amsterdam-based nine-piece instrumental ensemble that emerged in 2010 as a precocious Afrobeat revivalist act. Their early sound was heavily indebted to the Nigerian polyrhythms of Fela Kuti and the haunting Ethio-jazz scales of Mulatu Astatke.

Over a decade of activity, they have transitioned from a 'world music' curiosity into a sophisticated fusion powerhouse, integrating krautrock, techno-influenced synth lines, and psychedelic rock into their foundational jazz-funk framework. Their career is marked by a refusal to stay static; while their debut was released on 7-inch vinyl to signal analog authenticity, their later work like 'Algorhythm' embraces digital textures and dance-floor mechanics. Critically, they are lauded for their technical precision and the sheer power of their live performances, which have made them staples of the European festival circuit. They occupy a unique cultural space as a bridge between traditional global rhythms and contemporary Western club culture, influencing a new wave of Dutch instrumental music that prioritizes groove over soloing.
