Kartky, born Jakub Jankowski, is a pivotal figure in the Polish 'emo rap' and cloud rap movements. Emerging from the underground scene in Bytom, he gained significant traction after joining Quebonafide's QueQuality label in 2015.
His career is marked by a prolific output and a steady evolution from boom-bap roots toward a highly atmospheric, melancholic sound that incorporates elements of darkwave and alternative rock. His 2018-2019 period, specifically the albums 'Blackout' and 'Dom Na Skraju Niczego', solidified his reputation for 'cold' production and introspective, often despairing lyricism. Critically, he is noted for his ability to maintain a consistent aesthetic across dozens of releases, characterized by heavy reverb, minor-key melodies, and themes of existential dread and romantic loss. In 2019, he asserted his independence by founding the OU7SIDE label.
