Intro

Ken Laszlo is the quintessential voice of the high-energy Italo-disco movement, delivering music that feels like a permanent summer night in 1984. His sound is defined by driving, four-on-the-floor drum machine patterns, bright FM synthesizers, and a vocal style that sits somewhere between a pop crooner and a theatrical performer. It is music that refuses to be background noise, demanding movement and emotional engagement through its sheer melodic willpower.

What sets Laszlo apart is the technical precision of his arrangements combined with a distinctly Italian sense of drama. While many of his contemporaries leaned into the robotic or the minimalist, Laszlo's tracks like 'Hey Hey Guy' and 'Tonight' are maximalist anthems. They feature complex synth layering, unexpected vocal ad-libs, and a 'more is more' philosophy that eventually paved the way for the hyper-kinetic Eurobeat genre.

For those looking to dive in, the 1984 hit 'Hey Hey Guy' is the essential starting point. It captures the perfect balance of catchy hooks and the slightly surreal, charmingly translated English lyrics that define the era. From there, explore his mid-80s singles to hear the evolution of a sound that conquered dance floors from Milan to Tokyo.

His songs "Tonight", "1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8", "Mary Ann", "Everybody Is Dancing", "Baby Call Me", "Glasses Man", "Don't Cry" are also well known. Many of Laszlo's songs appear under his own name and many others, under pseudonyms such as Ric Fellini, DJ NRG, and Ricky Maltese.
