Intro

Kerkko Koskinen creates music that feels like the soundtrack to a sophisticated, slightly tragic film noir set in modern-day Helsinki. His sound is defined by a massive, brass-heavy orchestral scale that manages to feel deeply intimate and lonely at the same time. It is the sound of high-stakes emotion filtered through a cool, intellectual lens, where every piano chord and trumpet swell is placed with architectural precision.

What truly sets him apart is his ability to bridge the gap between 1960s film scores and contemporary art pop. While his roots in the legendary band Ultra Bra gave him a knack for catchy, communal melodies, his solo work and collaborations lean into a darker, more experimental territory. He uses the orchestra not just for padding, but as a primary emotional engine, often creating a sense of tension and release that mirrors the complexities of urban life.

Start with the album 'Agatha' if you want to experience his most ambitious jazz-influenced orchestral work, or dive into 'Sateentekijä' for a more song-oriented introduction to his unique brand of melancholic pop. It is music for people who appreciate the beauty in a gray sky and the drama of a well-composed silence.

Kerkko Klemetti Koskinen (born 7 January 1973) is a Finnish musician. Koskinen was the founding member and lead figure of the band Ultra Bra. He composed nearly all of Ultra Bra's songs and was the band's pianist. His most well-known solo songs are "Rakkaus viiltää" ("Love Cuts") and "Sateentekijä" ("Rainmaker"). Koskinen has worked as a talent scout for BMG and composed music for the Finnish films Upswing and Young Gods. He also composed songs for Vuokko Hovatta's solo album Lempieläimiä, one of which was a Eurovision Song Contest candidate called "Virginia". Furthermore, Koskinen wrote the song "Uuden ajan kynnyksellä" ("At the Threshold of a New Time") in memory of the murder of reporter Anna Politkovskaya.
