Khruangbin

Khruangbin is a Houston-based trio that has become a global phenomenon by pioneering a specific brand of atmospheric, instrumental psych-funk. Formed in 2004, the band's identity is rooted in the deep musical chemistry between guitarist Mark Speer and drummer Donald 'DJ' Johnson, who met playing in a gospel church band.

This foundation of R&B and gospel rhythm is essential to their sound, providing a disciplined, 'in-the-pocket' feel that allows Speer's guitar and Laura Lee's bass to explore more experimental territories. Their early work was famously inspired by 1960s Thai cassette culture, but they have since expanded their palette to include a vast array of international sounds, effectively creating a new subgenre often referred to as 'Khruangbin vibes.'
