King Midas Sound

King Midas Sound is a collaborative project led by producer Kevin Martin (The Bug), poet Roger Robinson, and vocalist Kiki Hitomi. Formed in London, the group represents a sophisticated evolution of the UK bass scene, moving away from the dancefloor-centric aggression of dubstep toward a more atmospheric, 'ghostly' interpretation of dub and soul.

Their sound is characterized by extreme use of space, heavy reverb, and a focus on the physical sensation of sub-bass frequencies. Martin’s production utilizes tape saturation and analog-style delays to create a sense of decay and historical weight, often described as 'sonic hauntology.' Robinson’s contributions bring a literary depth to the project, utilizing spoken word and falsetto to explore the psychological toll of urban living. Critically, they are positioned as a bridge between the experimental electronics of the Hyperdub label and the legacy of Bristolian trip-hop. Their work, particularly the debut 'Waiting for You,' is considered a landmark in post-dubstep, influencing a wave of artists interested in the intersection of sound system culture and ambient intimacy.
