Kite

Epic, cathedral-sized synth-pop that balances icy Swedish melancholy with soaring, triumphant melodies. Perfect for late-night drives and cinematic introspection.

Intro

Kite sounds like the intersection of a neon-lit nightclub and a vast, empty cathedral. Their music is built on a foundation of thick, analog synth textures and driving drum machine rhythms that feel both vintage and futuristic. There is a specific kind of Swedish coldness here, but it is constantly being thawed by massive, melodic hooks that aim for the back of the stadium.

What truly sets them apart is the vocal performance of Nicklas Stenemo. His voice is high, slightly nasal, and intensely emotional, cutting through the dense layers of electronics like a beacon. The production often utilizes slow-building arrangements that start with a single monotone pulse and erupt into a wall of shimmering sound, creating a sense of earned catharsis.

Start with the EP 'VI' or the single 'Don't Take the Light Away' to hear their evolution from minimalist synth-pop to grand, cinematic architects of sound. It is music for people who want to feel small against a massive sonic landscape while simultaneously feeling every intimate heartbreak.

Kite are a Swedish synth-pop group composed of Nicklas Stenemo (The Mo, Melody Club) and Christian Berg (Yvonne, Strip Music, The April Tears). Originating from Malmö and now based in Stockholm, they are signed to Astronaut Recordings and have published six EPs since their debut in 2008, each of which was released on CD and as a limited vinyl record edition. They have performed at festivals including Recession Festival in Århus, Denmark, Arvika Festival and Putte i parken in Sweden, Wave Gotik Treffen in Leipzig, and Amphi Festival in Cologne. In 2020 they released new music with producer Benjamin John Powers.
