Klima

Klima is the primary musical vehicle for French-born, London-based artist Angèle David-Guillou. Emerging in the mid-2000s, David-Guillou established a sound identity rooted in 'velveteen' vocals and a sophisticated approach to analog synthesis.

Her work is characterized by a high degree of multi-instrumentalism, often performing guitar, piano, and various vintage keyboards herself. The project gained significant critical traction with its 2007 self-titled debut on Peacefrog, followed by the more orchestrally-inclined 'Serenades & Serinettes' in 2010. David-Guillou is also a pivotal figure in the European indie-chamber-pop scene through her extensive collaborations with Piano Magic, contributing to over a decade of their discography. Her sound is heavily influenced by the rhythmic and melodic playfulness of Moondog and Carl Orff, translated through a lens of modern electronica and dream pop. Critics frequently highlight the 'sensuous universe' she creates, noting the tension between her disarmingly simple lyrics and the complex, glittering arrangements that support them. Within the 'Second Language' label collective, Klima represents a bridge between continental pop traditions and British experimentalism.
