Kongos

Kongos is a South African-American alternative rock band composed of the four Kongos brothers: Johnny, Jesse, Dylan, and Daniel. As sons of the 1970s British star John Kongos, they inherited a deep musical pedigree that spans London, Johannesburg, and Arizona.

Their sound identity is defined by a unique fusion of 'stomp and holler' indie rock, bluesy slide guitar, and prominent accordion leads, all underpinned by heavy, tribal-influenced percussion. This rhythmic focus is often attributed to their exposure to South African kwaito and township jive during their formative years. Their 2012 album, Lunatic, propelled them to international fame, specifically through the multi-platinum success of the single Come With Me Now, which became a staple in sports broadcasting and film trailers. Critically, they are noted for their self-contained production style, handling all writing and engineering within the family. Their later work, such as the 1929 trilogy, shows an evolution toward more experimental textures while maintaining their signature rhythmic drive. They occupy a specific niche in the 'stomp-rock' boom of the 2010s, standing out through their more aggressive, distorted instrumental choices compared to peers like The Lumineers or Mumford & Sons.
