Konrad Black

Konrad Black (born Simon Ford) is a pivotal figure in the mid-2000s minimal techno movement, particularly associated with the influential Wagon Repair label he co-founded with Mathew Jonson. His sound identity is defined by a unique synthesis of Vancouver's moody electronic sensibilities and the aggressive, technical foundations of UK drum and bass.

Unlike many of his contemporaries who focused on 'glitch' or 'micro-house,' Black leaned into a 'techno-noir' aesthetic, characterized by heavy, distorted basslines and a cinematic sense of foreboding. His career arc saw him move from early D&B experiments on labels like Virus to becoming a staple of the Berlin-centric minimal scene, championed by figures like Ricardo Villalobos and Richie Hawtin.
