Kreuzweg Ost is a prominent Austrian martial industrial and neoclassical project formed in 1998. The group was founded by Michael Gregor (well-known as Silenius of the black metal band Summoning) and Martin Schirenc (of Pungent Stench).
Following Schirenc's departure after the debut 'Iron Avantgarde,' the project evolved with the inclusion of Ronald Albrecht and Oliver Stummer. Their sound identity is defined by a 'radio play' aesthetic, eschewing traditional vocals for meticulously arranged samples of historical dialogue, film snippets, and wartime broadcasts. Musically, they blend booming, repetitive martial percussion with neoclassical elements like somber piano and orchestral brass. This creates a cinematic, often melancholic atmosphere that explores themes of conflict, history, and industrial decay. Within the martial industrial scene, they are regarded as more atmospheric and narrative-driven than their more aggressive peers, maintaining a strong cult following for their high production values and evocative storytelling capabilities.
